DANISH STAR ADDED TO SUNDAY LINE-UP

HANS Andersen, one of the top riders in Premiership racing, has joined the Coventry team for their one-off East Midlands Bowl clash at Leicester on Sunday (2pm).

Poole racer Andersen, a former Grand Prix and World Cup rider with Denmark, will be back in Bees colours after three previous spells with the former Brandon Stadium side.

The meeting is aimed at giving frustrated and angry Bees fans a team to support after the loss of their Premiership status on the eve of the season when their stadium became unavailable.

And with suggestions in the media over the last fortnight that a return to the famous old track is unlikely, Leicester are pleased to host the meeting to keep awareness of their plight in the headlines.

Andersen joins Scott Nicholls, Rory Schlein and Kenneth Hansen in a powerful Bees side who will have experienced duo Peter Oakes and Colin Pratt in joint charge.

“Coventry mean business,” said Watling JCB Lions promoter Neil Machin. “It’s more than just a challenge match this, they’ve put together a strong side and I know their fans want to see them win this local derby.

“The addition of Hans Andersen is an interesting one and I know our boys will need to be at their best to beat them.

“Whilst Leicester Speedway have great sympathy for Coventry’s plight, we will forget about that for a couple of hours on Sunday afternoon as we don’t want them coming here and beating us.”
